Ryan: Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2014 GMC Sierra 1500, we'll be taking a look at the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 trailer brake controller. You will also need the Tekonsha plug-in wiring adapter for your Sierra. One of the things that separates this brake controller from many of the others that I personally really like, is your ability to customize it to different size trailers that you might have. What I mean by that is, if you hit this top right button and hold it down, it'll pull up a menu that has five different trailer settings. For example, if you have a smaller trailer, you can save all your settings to that trailer, and say if you have a larger one, you can adjust those settings for that trailer, and save it under trailer two, and so on and so forth. more

You'll see with the manual slider all the way over, if I have it fully down, it's red, which is the most apply, and if I back it off, we go from orange to green, which is middle to no apply. The manual slider can also be used for a few scenarios, for example if you're stuck in traffic on a steep hill, you can push the slider over to apply the brakes on your trailer and hold it there, so the brakes on your vehicle aren't holding the weight of your trailer. Additionally you can use it for testing purposes, when testing out your seven volt connector, as well as for straightening out your trailer if it starts to sway when driving down the road.We begin our installation by plugging in our wiring adaptor. more

In an emergency situation when we really have to step on our brakes, it's going to sense that and send power back to accordingly.
